My very talented friend Sophie
Photography by John Lander
Last night I went to my great friend Sophie Barker's album launch. Sophie has the most beautiful voice that gives you goose bumps and makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
I would have blogged the evening by now but Sophie and her band did such an awesome and upbeat cover of A Forest by The Cure, I decided I have to try and post footage of that too.

Can't get this out of my head - Liam Gallagher's new single
You know when you have a song stuck in your head? Maybe it's because it has the same riff as John Lennon's Instant Karma but I really like Beady Eye's new single The Roller.
Lots of reviews are slagging off their new album Different Gear, Still Speeding which is out next week, but I've always had a lot of time for Liam and I'm not going to jump on that bandwagon.
Beady Eye is Liam and three

I hope this is Number One
I don't give a stuff about the charts these days. For fear of sounding old I have to say I can't bear all these manufactured bands like JLS and the awful cheesy, pseudo dance tunes that get released (not to be confused with GOOD dance music, of course!). The majority of the music that's in the charts today makes me feel sick. There are some great bands out there but gone are the days when I

Sunday music - J J Cale
Here's a laid back song for Sunday. I love J J Cale's voice. The man is SO cool and effortless. I wish this youtube recording was louder. I play everything loud. Luckily I don't upset the neighbours too often - I have a musician upstairs and my next door neighbour is deaf. The musician does occasionally critique my musical choices the next day, although usually he finds the variety and

Sunday music - The brilliant Adele
I went to see Adele at a small private gig before she was signed and her beautiful voice and pure natural talent blew me away. She has a voice that gives you goose bumps and is one of the few singers who sounds exactly the same, or even better live. You can't beat that raw energy.
I love her version of Bob Dylan's Make You Feel My Love. It's such a beautiful song. A lady did it on X
Saturday night music - The fabulous Grace Jones
I love this!!
This is a tune Mrs Jones introduced me to as I hadn't really listened to much of Grace Jones' newest album. We were jumping around my sitting room blasting this out. I love this remix by Aeroplane, it's amazing!
Bear with it, as it gets going Grace starts rocking out. Listen to the end and play loud!I absolutely love it. What do you think?

Sunday Music - Rufus and Chaka Khan
Rufus and Chaka Khan
This record brings back so many memories, as soon as I hear the opening bars I want to get up and dance. I was fourteen when this came out in 1983. It reminds me going to local discos, hanging out with my friends and my boyfriend at the time who was the coolest boy at school. He was a skinhead had huge blue eyes and was gorgeous! This was just before I'd discovered the

Sunday Music - The amazing Willis
I'm still having my girlie weekend with Mrs Jones. We stayed up all night on Friday downloading music and jumping around the sitting room. We love introducing each other to new music.
Here is a brilliant song from Willis called Take You High from her album Come Get Some. She reminds of Etta James or Janis Joplin, she has an amazing voice. Everyone thinks she's black but she's white and

Sunday music - The wonderful Richie Havens
When I saw my friend Fee Doran on Friday night we stayed up playing each other some great music we'd come across. Fee introduced me to Richie Havens. I am quite blown away by him. He's one of those performers that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up.
This is him opening Woodstock in 1969, the year I was born. His Birthday is the day before mine. I love him!! and as Fee

Laid back Sunday
And it's not house music... for a change!
Here is a tune I've loved for years by Danish duo Laid Back from 1989. It reminds me of my friend Fee Doran who used to play it when she DJ'd. I've never seen the video until now and it's pretty amazing.
It's now available from iTunes for the princely sum of 79 pence. It sounds great played loud with the bass turned up.
We're off to a gastro pub

Music for Saturday - Tiefschwarz
I defy you not to have a dance or at least tap your feet to this low-key but upbeat little number by German brothers Tiefschwarz. I'd called it disco-tinged deep house.
